Merric and Otto

Last week, I decided to get a fish tank and a Betta fish. After losing all three of my dogs within eleven months, I felt an empty spot. I was not quite ready to take the leap of another dog so I settled on a fish. I could enjoy them without the great emotional attachment or the financial commitment of the same level. He made himself right at home and his personality began to shine almost immediately. We named him Merric, Irish for “ruler of the sea”.  He has begun his daily watch of me… whenever I am in the office it would seem he keeps an eye on me but when I am gone (or he doesn’t realize I am here yet) he hides in the artificial plants and little cave area. He has already realized when feeding time is and eagerly meets me at the top of the tank to gobble up a piece of food, then he will come back later

A trip for the record books

Last week my family began a little adventure…well three of us did anyway! We were going to travel across country to watch the youngest graduate from AIT from the ARMY. Our adventures began at 12:05 am…in the midst of the darkest hours we set out to overtake the roadways from Central Texas to Central West Georgia. With few stops in between and very little traffic to really aggravate us we arrived at our destination in 14.5 hours. No animals were harmed in this or any portion of our adventure although the brief death of the cellular signal did occur. One one stop an ultimate find occurred! Nehi Peach! This elusive soda is not found in Central Texas nor many other places so when its appearance was noted it became captured and consumed… just after posting a teasing photo on social media, which led to the need of recapturing more to bring and deliver to others. I obliged of course! Once we

A piece of art – a piece of my heart.

In 2004, my paternal grandmother was laid to rest. One of her many talents was working with beads. This piece was handed down to me – it had parts that were broken, although the repairs would be minor they took me 13 years to complete. Why? You might ask…because until now I couldn’t bear to look at it without my heart breaking. Vera Dyess was the most amazing woman to me- Her smile would light up a room and her voice was as sweet as anything on earth. Her letters were always kind and full of love and then she was gone. Today, I opened the wrapped piece and made the repairs to the best of my ability. Today and from this day forward on, I will display a piece of her art as a reminder that talent is to never be hidden and neither is love.

A change in us

Mere moments ago an historic event took place, the United States of America got a new president – commander in chief. While there are many who are happy and many who are not – we MUST remember first and foremost that WE are a UNITED States. That WE are a UNITED people – and we need to become that again. This past election has divided us further than any I have seen in elections in the past. We need to remember what makes US Americans – the freedoms we enjoy and cherish. No matter what “side” you are on… WE ARE STILL AMERICANS!  We must come together and build on the same goals we all want – a better future, a better now.

Do you ever just start to clean up an area and then somehow hours later you have rearranged or reorganized the entire room or filing system? Oh, I sure hope so…cause then I wouldn’t be so alone in the struggle. It would seem that when when I start to “clean up” I get so distracted by the need to organize that I get lost. But the worst part is when you go back to find something you cleaned or organized and can’t remember that perfect spot you thought you had! I have no great advice on this topic… just know that you are not alone either. I was updating my digital storage space – as capacity was being reached in one so I had to move some files around – and somehow and hour later my digital storage is not the only thing “cleaned up”… my desktop and various other files have also been organized. And while, I know I
