BLOGGER INTERVIEW: Aconite Cafe

Aconite Cafe

Run by Sabetha Danes

When did this blog start? Our journey began on a lazy Sunday in January of 2016, over a cup of coffee. While discussing fantasy books, we joked about opening a coffee shop.

What inspired you to start blogging about books? Our life consists of reading, writing, and publishing books, all while consuming copious amounts of coffee, why not share that with fellow fanatics?

What is the best Fantasy or SciFi book that you have reviewed on your blog? There are a handful of books that are my go to must reads when people ask for recommendations. When scrolling through my book reviews on my blog I realized that I haven’t posted them all yet! This is one of my favorites, from an indie author. Click Here

What is the funniest Fantasy or SciFi book you have promoted on your blog? I’ve read some funny ones, but I just realized I haven’t blogged about any of them! Going to remedy this now! Click Here

Do you attend any events as a blogger? This year I have been trying to branch out and do some events, and get more involved in the book blogger community.

What’s the best advice you have received about starting your blog? Treat your blog like a business and learn what it takes to make it successful. From SEO to Affiliates, blogging is more than just creating posts.

What blogging advice / rules do you ignore in your blog? I don’t think there has been anything I’ve totally ignored. All advice or ‘rules’ have their place, even if it’s just to trigger me to do more research into the topic they are for.

What advice would you offer readers who want to blog? I think the key to building a successful book blog is to specialize and stay focused. While you may read in every genre, it’s better when the blog knows their target reader, and their interests and focuses in on providing content that reader would enjoy.

How many books do you read each month? I try and read 10-20 books a month, but I more aim at hitting a yearly goal of 100+ books. Focusing on the yearly helps me cope with months where life only allows for a couple reads.

Do you have a favorite snack when reading? I love a good cup of Chai while reading. So relaxing to cuddle up in a cozy blanket with a good book.

Where is the strangest place you’ve ever stopped to read? Text to Speech has really changed how accessible reading. Any boring task can be a chance to read! I use the app called FB Reader, and will read while shopping, or waiting in line. So many places to just push play and enjoy a book.

Do you like to interview the authors if you get a chance? We do have an interview form that we share with authors to help give them a boost during launch week. I haven’t yet interviewed an author live. That would be nerve-wrecking!

Does your blog have a particular theme / genre? We focus on fantasy (any sub-genre), with particular interest in indie published books.

Are there any genres you don’t read? Overall, I’ll read anything once, but I do tend to steer away from main plot romance unless I know the author or it’s strong recommended by someone I trust.

Does a pet keep you company when reading? We have two kitties named James and Lily. They aren’t much for snuggling but they love to sleep near while we read.

Author of young adult/fantasy / paranormal as well as poetry and more.
